Basware's climate change impact score exceeds IT sector average

The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is a global non-profit institution that discloses and manages the environmental impact of organizations and cities. Basware reports its carbon footprint annually through CDP's international climate change questionnaire for publicly traded companies. In 2021, Basware made good progress, especially in emission reduction initiatives, corporate governance and risk disclosure, compared to the benchmark. Meanwhile, on a scale from A to D, Basware was able to receive the B score, while the average of the IT and software development sector is at the C level.

"We live in a world we want to pass on to future generations, so it is imperative that we as a company do our part to ensure sustainability, starting with our own staff," said Klaus Andersen, CEO, Basware. "Not only are we 100 percent committed to being transparent about our progress, but we are also constantly looking for ways to reduce our company's carbon footprint with actions such as improving the energy efficiency of our office locations; reducing business travel through collaboration technologies and online meeting tools; and considering renewable energy sources whenever possible."

Basware also received the 2020 Supply & Demand Chain Executive (SDCE) Green Award, which recognizes suppliers of supply chain solutions and services that help their customers achieve measurable sustainability goals. And Basware has a corporate environmental policy, which outlines how it considers environmental challenges in its operations.

"The scientific consensus on the need for urgent action on climate change has never been clearer. And current ambition will determine how well we can protect our natural resources and avoid the worst impacts of global climate change. As policy and business stakeholders continue to develop strategies for environmental protection and a low-carbon transition, the availability of reliable and comparable data will remain critical. Basware has demonstrated a commitment to environmental transparency and has made an important contribution to an economy that works for both people and planet," said David Lammers, Deputy Director of Corporate Engagement, CDP Europe.

CDP encourages companies and governments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, secure water resources and protect forests. More than 13,000 companies with more than 64% of global market capitalization disclosed environmental data through CDP in 2021. This is in addition to the more than 1,100 cities, states and regions that disclosed, making CDP's platform one of the richest sources of information worldwide on how companies and governments are driving environmental change.
